How do I render ZDepth only without RGB? And for animation?

I found this tutorial when I was looking for the same concept in Photoshop, but this for AE, anyway, i get the idea cozboth are the same way, and I was very impressive about the result.

Finally! Thanks for this. I’ve been banging my head against the Z Fog wall for a while now, between Maya, EXR format and extra channels, After Effects and it’s craptacular 3Dfog plugin.

You’ve just made my day; thank you! I like the Levels bit as I’d never thought of that.

“The reason we are creating a new composition for our beautyPass is that when we put the fog overtop of our footage we want our fog to be blurred by the Z-Depth as well. Choosing “Leave all attributes in ‘beautyPass’” means that although we are moving our selected layers to a new composition any existing effects on our selection will remain in this composition and be applied to the new comp that is taking the place of our current selection.”

hi there :)

this tutorial would be nice if you could explain the part in the middle a little bit better. i am really not figuring out how to use your strange comp/beautyFOG copy with another copy of the copy that is a copy of the project depthpass that is on top of what?… and so on…

do more screenshots – i and maybe other don’t understand this (maybe) good way to add fog…
